Meet our team
James’ mission is simple, help to connect people, and make this city we call home, a better place to live.
Since founding Inspire Net in 1998, he’s lived and breathed Inspire, dug holes on hill-tops, maintained our server room, talked to customers during the day and night and supported a whole bunch of different organisations in our community.
When he’s not inspiring the team at work, or spending time with his wife and two boys, he’s off speaking at community meetings about technology options to connect our remote rural areas to the world.
We’re not sure he sleeps.
Paul has been part of the team since birth - being the brother of James, but started as our General Manager in 2014. He has spent a lot of time looking at the structure of the business and ensuring the right people are in the right places to meet our customer expectations and to support our continued growth.
Paul brings a very grounded and down-to-earth attitude to the business, and a good dose of humour to the office, all while steering us to greater efficiency and making us generally better. He ensures that we have all Health and Safety systems in place when out in the field, on top of hills and in farmers' paddocks.
Outside of work he can be found in the garden, working in the shed on his cars, catching up with family and chasing around after his littlies.
Pete is the Help Desk Manager and the only one who can pull off a long twizzly beard. His job is to watch over the award winning helpdesk team and ensure that you are getting the best service possible. It’s also his pearly voice on the helpdesk phone prompts.
When he’s not at work he can be found laying waste to the universe of his choosing from the comfort of his leather bound swivel chair (gaming), battling gravity and the cruel fate of time head on through strenuous exercise (gym) or artfully dodging the oppressive burdens of his domestic existence (getting out of housework).
What does Donna bring to her multi-tasking role of 14 years as Finance Manager, Scrutiniser of the dollars, Office Operational Expert, Purveyor of fine foods for our tea room, and Camp Mother? well… Debits and Credits balance, GST gets paid or claimed, reports are written and she pays us every week (Okay, we benefit too.) Most businesses have scope for this to become chaotic, but Donna imposes order on it all.
She’s a pretty great real life Mum and Granny, cafe regular and social go getter, and enjoys staying closely in touch with family in Taranaki, spending time with her family in town including her grandaughter and spending time with friends. She’s our oldest resident and she loves her job just about as much as we love having her here.
Design is her passion and using creativity to add value to business is what she loves.
Over a decade in the industry has taken her from Palmerston North to Auckland and back again. After gaining extensive experience in web design and email marketing for the retail sector, she’s become even more Inspired, as our Design & Brand Manager.
Creative, energetic and sure to liven up the office, her designs speak volumes.
Karina enjoys challenges that provide opportunities for creative thinking, and taking projects from concept right through to the finished product.
Karina finds it super rewarding working with the team on sponsorship opportunities both within the community and further afield, and building our brand identity and awareness.
Alex is the Inspire Wireless Manager for Inspire Net. He is in charge of co-ordinating the team that does the maintenance and installs for our rural wireless network.
He is known for being able to put away more chicken tenders than anyone else at staff lunch shouts. When he gets away from the office you’ll find him playing soccer, weightlifting and playing bass in his cover band. He is an avid supporter of Newcastle United.
Network Operations Centre (NOC)
John’s field of expertise lies in making networks work. He has an unhealthy interest in network infrastructure and protocols - if the Internet were a building he would be found in the basement checking the plumbing.
There are unconfirmed reports that he does things outside of work, but is apparently never outside of WiFi coverage.
Brenden, aka B1, has been at Inspire Net for over 10 years and still loves the diverse roles he finds himself doing. He can equally be found quadbiking on trails, digging in new antenna poles, wrangling routing, poking servers or installing new equipment for customers. He has a penchant for breaking cellphones, hand mixing concrete and being sent out to sort problems.
When not at work he can be found watching his kids play sport, power gardening or participating in various sports that will cause him to need replacement joints in the future.
Bruce is a real all-rounder from our network team. He somehow ends up becoming a specialist in whatever task is thrown at him - lately, that’s been casting some sort of magic spells with VoIP phones and our WiFi prepay networks. Customers always find Bruce friendly and helpful, but when speaking to him should be careful not to voice too strong an opinion of classic science fiction franchises.
When not at work, Bruce can be found shearing sheep, building fences and milking goats. Generally he likes to pretend that he’s still the farmer that he originally aspired to be.
Seton’s been with Inspire Net since 2010 and is now a new member of our Network Team - A jack of all trades, you will most likely see him out and about helping maintain our network, whether it be MetroLAN, Fibre or Inspire Prepay.
When he isn’t on the road keeping busy, he can be found at home trying not to destroy his house with DIY maintenance.
Tom’s our resident Systems Administrator, and an enthusiastic fan of all things Unix and web. You can find him up late in the network team’s office, upgrading your precious server to the very latest XYZ.
When he’s not poring over code, configuration, or customer support, he can occasionally be caught playing guitar or running.
Dave T is one of the members of our network team, and one of the biggest Everton F.C. supporters out there. His job is to work behind the curtains and ensure that our network is running at its very best. His motto is “If you can’t see me, then everything is working as intended.”
When his daily duties are done he loves to kick back, hang out with his family, play videogames and watch his favourite motor racing.
Wade spends much of his time building and looking after some of the most remote parts of Inspire's network.
He has made it his mission to venture fearlessly into new parts of the country in a valiant effort to expand Inspire Net's borders into areas previously untouched by the Internet.
Wade sometimes likes to pretend that he can help out the network administrators back at base and as such, his current goal is to grow the most preposterously unruly beard in the NOC in an attempt to gain more Internet powers.
The rest of the time he enjoys constructing elaborate home automation contraptions and developing exotic new beer recipes to try out on his unsuspecting workmates.
When not writing code at work, James spends his time gaming or getting away from the keyboard to enjoy the backroads, camping and exploring New Zealand.
Welcome back Fay!
Fay started at Inspire as the face of our front reception area, and is back with a whole bunch of web development experience.
You’ll now find her in our network operations team writing code that helps to create and improve the internal tools our team use, especially in the helpdesk.
She’s busy making everyone’s lives easier and we couldn’t be happier to have her back on board!
Outside Infrastructure Division
Joining us in 2016, Hadley is part of our Inspire Net outdoor infrastructure team. As an Inspire technician he is involved with tower builds, wireless installs, new subdivisions and brings with him a great knowledge of fibre optics.
Hadley knows all this stuff inside and out, and his skill sets aren’t limited to that either. Snowboarding, motor cross and a house reno project in the country while pretending to be a lifestyle farmer are also high on his skill set list... or will be once that house is completed!
Kevin is the latest member to join our Inspire infrastructure team. He’s been in the communications industry for around 4 years. Outside of work he keeps fit by doing triathlons, trail running, snowboarding and mountain biking and he tries to get in as much travelling as possible.
Campbells interests include anything to do with hunting… pigs, deer, geese, pheasants, ducks and small game with his two sons, who also enjoy surfcasting and rock fishing for the big snappers or kingfish. White baiting is on the list too.
He’s a typical farm boy with a general interest in all things farming related or rural.
He drives a Hilux, enjoys a nice cold Export 33!! and was born in stubbies!
Campbells main role here at Inspire is work on the RBI2 upgrades and eventually all aspects of the Infrastructure Division. He’s a great part of our team and it’s super convenient that he loves being in the outdoors rain or shine!
There’s something in the water over in our Infrastructure team, another one with a love for the outdoors, beach, bush, farming, fishing and BBQ!
When not spending time with his wife and 3 kids, building projects and all of those outdoor activities, Matt works on the design, build and recording of our fibre optic network.
Help Desk Agents
Ryan works on Accounts Support and has been with Inspire since 2004. He’ll help you answer any billing and payment questions you have.
In his free time he enjoys watching movies and media with friends, messing with Linux servers and gaming on Team Fortress 2. While not in front of the computer desk he enjoys running, cycling and bringing up embarrassing memories of his mates over a beer.
Dylan is Inspire Nets MetroLAN Service Delivery Manager, he is responsible for coordinating subcontractors, improving processes and tools, and ensuring customer expectations are met.
He started in the Helpdesk in 2014 and since then has held roles as a Wireless Installer and Senior Helpdesk Agent.
Outside of work Dylan spends his time running Manawatu Armoured Combat (a full-contact medieval fight-club), at the gym, or doing a bit of casual gaming (PC master race).
Jimmy is one of Inspire Net’s Senior Helpdesk Agents. He is responsible for providing second tier support and troubleshooting for the Helpdesk as well as overseeing VoIP provisioning.
His ability to make a pun out of anything is second to none and he considers himself a friend first, boss second and probably an entertainer third.
Outside of work you’ll find him wading through the salt in League of Legends, playing badminton, and looking after the animal boarding business he runs with his family.
Rowan is one of our senior agents and can often be seen working on the service desk with a bearded smile. When not working on his computer screen tan or nose deep in a book, Rowan can be found puttering around his herb garden while dodging his overly aggressive cat.
Jeff is a quietly spoken member of our senior agent team. You’ll often find him organising and keeping an eye on new UFB fibre connections for our customers, and sometimes plugging in equipment for our own Inspire Fibre connections, in between his other duties, watching over the other helpdesk agents.
When not working, he can often be found keeping his fiancée company and watching TV, or enjoying a few racing games.
Legends tell of a man who meditated under a waterfall for forty days and nights to achieve a super level of patience and understanding. If you call the helpdesk you may just end up speaking with him.
When not at work Robert can often be found in his man cave drooling over computer components, plotting world domination with his young niece or keeping his allies alive on Raid Nights in World of Warcraft.
You’ll speak to Rory when you call up and when he’s not downstairs setting up your new router.
Outside of work Rory enjoys anything game… card, board, role play and video. Quite hooked on team based co-op games and 16bit style rpgs/metroidvanias at present – don’t worry, we had to google that too!
There will be very few occasions you'll ever see Daniel without a hat on… rain, hail or shine.
When not at work he likes to get out trout fishing, down to the pub to catch up with friends, or hanging around home with his wife and kids.
He has a very keen interest in Blockbuster movies and survival video games like Ark survival evolved and he’s a great addition to our helpdesk team.
In his spare time Dan enjoys playing video games, creating digital art, befriending stray cats and reading as many fantasy and sci-fi books as he can get his hands on.
He’s always open to suggestions for new books to read and is currently hopelessly addicted to energy drinks as well.. welcome Dan!
