Spam Filtering Instructions for Outlook Express 6
These instructions should also work for Outlook Express 5.0 and 5.5. If you have problems following these instructions then please contact our helpdesk on 06 3578559 (If you live in the Palmerston North free calling zone) or 0800 484 363 .
Step One
- Whilst inside Outlook Express 6, highlight "Local Folders", as below.
Step Two
- Go to the File menu. Select "Folder" and then "New".
- Type "Spam" into the Folder Name box, and have "Local Folders" selected.
Step Three
- Go to the Tools menu. Select "Message Rules" and then "Mail".
Step Four
- This brings up a new window for you, called "New Mail Rule". If this window does not appear and you have a window called "Message Rules" instead, you may need to click on the "New..." button. The window you should be seeing is shown below.
- The top section is labelled "1. Select the conditions for your rule:". In this section place a tick in "Where the Subject line contains specific words".
- In section 2, labelled "2. Select the Actions for your rule:" Place a tick in "Move it to the specified folder".
Step Five
- You should now have a window that looks similar to what is shown below. If you do not have this you may wish to check that you have followed the instructions correctly so far.
- In Section 3, which is labelled "3. Rule Description (click on an underlined value to edit it):" click on "contains specific words" which should be underlined and coloured blue. This will bring up a window similar to the image below.
- In the top, white coloured field, type in "***SPAM***" (without the quotes). Click on the "Add" button. This should give you something similar to what is shown below.
- Click "OK".
- Click on "specified" which should be underlined and coloured blue. This will bring up a window similar to the image below.
- Highlight the folder "Spam" and click OK
- You should now have a window similar to what is shown below.
- In Section 4, labelled "4. Name of the rule:" fill in the word "SPAM".
- Press "OK" at the bottom of this window.
- You should now have a window similar to what is shown below.
- Press "OK" to apply these settings.
