Intermittent DNS issue

We are currently receiving reports of intermittent DNS resolution timeouts, which could cause website and email issues. We are investigating the issue.

International Traffic Outage

International traffic for all customers suffered an outage for about an hour from 10.45am to 11.45am on Saturday morning due to catastrophic power failure at a fiber point of presence. The switches were moved to an alternative power source and all international traffic should be working normally again. MetroLAN Outage

A power supply in a customer-facing core router failed and tripped a breaker which took out power to various core switches. Power to all services was quickly restored. The router powered up but would not pass POST and boot. A temporary router was sourced and configured from 15:00 onwards, with all services restored by 18:30.

Nationwide Dial-up Lines [resolved]

Currently all of our nationwide dial-up lines are not able to handle new incoming calls. This is a confirmed fault with our nationwide dial-up line supplier. Current estimated time of repair is 8pm from our supplier but we will chase and update this message we know more.

Network Outage in Pahiatua, Dannevirke and Woodvile

We are currently experiencing a major outage in Pahiatua, Dannevirke, Woodvile and surrounding areas due to a fibre cut. Eketahuna was also briefly affected but we have established a temporary route to restore service in that area.
Our technicians are working on the problem and hope to have service restored soon; unfortunately we have no ETR at this time.

International Outtage

Ongoing power outage in Auckland has disrupted our international transit providers networks (or their cross Auckland links).
No ETR as yet but issue being worked on.
[01:00] Data is coming across a backup path which is allowing some international traffic but with high latency and packet loss

Core Router Reboot

One of our core routers rebooted itself at 14:03. The router was reloaded and all external routes had reloaded by 14:10. We are investigating the cause and will schedule an OS upgrade this coming Sunday morning at 04:00. There maybe an upgrade sooner if it's deemed to be necessary.

Loss of International connectivity

Our national WAN links are partially down which has caused us to lose our international peerings and our national link to Auckland. Our upstream and WAN provider is working on the issue.
05:00 The has been a major power failure at the data centre that both our primary international provider and Inspire use for connectivity knocking out our peerings at Auckland and theirs. Techs are on there way there now.
06:10 International connectivity has been restored. Connectivity to our equipment in Auckland is yet to be restored which may cause some slowness for NZ sites

Packet Loss for clients fed via wireless from the Tararua and Ruahine Ranges

Large amounts of packet loss to wireless customers in Pohangina Valley, the Manawatu and Northern Tararua
12:30 There is an ongoing snow storm causing icing of our backhaul aerials which has cause degradation of the links to our sites.
14:30 Eastern sites are warming up and recovering and we are rerouting traffic to the western sites to improve performance
15:00 Backhaul links have been rerouted and are working
16:30 Battery power has finally run out (snow bought down the lines earlier in the day). The lines company will not have the power back until sometime tomorrow (25/9/09) morning
17:00 A generator is heading to the site to run it for 4-5 hours and charge the batteries so it will hopefully run until midnight tonight
25/9 07:30 We have managed to get a generator to the site and it is now up and running
08:30 Power is back on and the site is back up and functioning normally

We are currently experiencing intermittent issues with our local modem banks. This should only be effecting customers in the Palmerston North calling area using our 086721212 dial-up number. Palmerston North Power Outage

There has just been a major power fault in our part of Palmerston North. As a result most of our services were knocked out. Most services are now back online although some services may still be effected.

Dial Up Issues

There is currently a problem with our connection to the Telecom network for Dial up customers causing dialup connections to fail. This is also effecting our helpdesk phone system. The problem is being worked on but there is currently no estimated to repair.

DSL Connectivity Issue

Between 7:15am and 8:40am this morning, some customers connecting to Inspire via DSL would have experienced an outage. A security patch applied to one of Inspire's routers resulted in a fault whereby some DSL circuits could connect, but not send or receive traffic. The patch was removed and full connectivity restored. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Palmerston North Power Outage

Shorty after midnight a large part of Palmerston North lost power. Power was restored at approximately 4am. During the power outage we lost various systems, but all systems have now been restored. We're now carrying out checks of our entire network to check for any remaining issues.

Due to a Tropical Storm in Oregon, part of the Southern Cross cable has been damaged. This is currently causing congestion on our International links.
We do not currently have an estimated resolution time for this problem but will update this website when we know more.
This will cause some International websites to be running slower than normal.
FIXED: After weather conditions allowed, technicians have actioned a temporary fix on the Southern Cross Cable in Oregon, US.

Remedial Power Work at the PNCC building

The PNCC as part of their power restoration work changed our power feed over from generator power to a normal power feed at 7:30pm last night. There was a short outage as an active component was transfered to another UPS at 7:30 and again at 9:15 when we went back onto normal power.

Fire and power outage causing major MetroLAN fault

At approximately 9.30am this Monday morning an electrical fire started in the Palmerston North City Council building. Whilst the fire has been stopped the building still has no power and is likely to be without power for a period of days.
This has caused a major failure to part of our MetroLAN network. As part of this our wireless, ethernet and extend customers are not currently functioing. We are working towards a work around for this problem and hope to have more news as the afternoon goes on.
RESOLVED - 4PM
The PNCC building still has no power, but our network is back up and fully functional. The PNCC building is scheduled to have temporary power available in 2 to 3 days time - there is a small chance of an outage when we move back to that in the future.

Power Disruption to AXA Tower UPS

The UPS powering the wireless links on top of the AXA Tower in the Palmerston North CBD failed. The UPS has been reset and is operating normally. A replacement has been sourced and will replace the original unit at 6:30 am tomorrow morning (Sat 23rd June).

The UPS failed again at 1:45 and was replaced at 2:15.

Our International pipe, provided by Global Gateway Internet, is having planned maintenance this morning. This will happen during an 8 hour window from 4am to 12pm NZDT. This is due to maintenance work being carried out on the Southern Cross cable linking .nz to the rest of the world.
We expect out International connectivity to intermittently be up and down until midday today. We thank for your patience.

Due to Cogent and Level 3 de-peering, large sections of the internet have become very slow or unreachable. This is affecting a very large number of ISP's around the world, Inspire Net included.
This means that surfing to international sites is running very slowly.
Inspire is working on ways around this issue, but we have no estimated time of a fix as of yet. We will update this fault as soon as we have more details.

Power Problems in our Auckland Server Room

There are power issues in the server room we co-locate in to route via the Auckland Peering Exchange. Between 17:00 and 19:00 today (4th Oct) they are fixing the problem. We have routed around the issue and this shouldn't effect our customers.

Fault with Bitstream Connections

Telecom are working to fix a fault with the Bitstream service, which is not allowing a random pool of customers to connect. Telecom have given no indication as to when it will be fixed, nor any further details.
Inspire Net staff are in contact with those known to be affected at the moment.

Currently Inspire Net is having intermittent issues with international traffic. Once or twice every few hours there is a small period where international traffic stops altogether. These periods average about 10 minutes each.
National traffic remains unaffected.
